oh...mince!

Well, when you're a bit down, and all the elements are against you, and it's the worst week ever with things to organise, people to call back, a mountain of projects on the go, and having to say goodbye for ever to someone you really liked...what to do?
Break down, close the door, and rock yourself to a numb state? Not my style.
Instead I've carried on like a trooper these days, trying as best as I can to meet my deadlines and get the job done. There's not been any time for nice sewing sessions, even if there's a long list of lovely ideas ready to be executed.
These lovely home made mince pies have surely plyed a role in my vitality. Although, for once, I have cheated and bought ready-made pastry. I know, it's bad!!

Cath K. heaven

Last weekend I received some unexpected presents from the in-laws. As you can see, they had not forgotten my addiction to Cath Kidston stuff. I can't wait for it to rain again so I can use my umbrella!

During the week last week I also got the sweetest note and present from one of my student who is leaving the country. It's funny how sometimes you don't realise just how much of an impact you have on someone's life. Anyway, here's what she got me...

Well, that's it for now. Unfortunately a few sad things have also happened in the last few days, which means I simply can't be at home and enjoy my holidays as I'd planned. Never mind, it'll just have to be on stand-by for the moment.

celebration

You know, when I started this blog, I just had no idea what kind of readers I would get. Sure, there'd be mainly crafters. Maybe there'd be some compatriots from the other side of the Channel. I think what surprised me the most was the amount of American readers. Funny how things turn out, no? I have really come to love blogs like that of Posy Gets Cozy and co.
A big thank you to everyone for supporting this blog in its infancy!
And now, on to the celebration bit. Kerri from Lovely Little Handmades is having a massive giveaway for her 100th post. There's plenty of chance to win, and the fabric prizes are gorgeous. Hurry up, the offer's only on for two more days.

favourite handmades

My week-end's been pretty busy. how about you all? I went to see this at the movies, it's not for the faint-hearted, and despite a couple of graphic scenes, it was absolute genious. I hope it gets its deserved Oscar prize. Between that and others things, I simply haven't had the energy to start work on my "it bag". There's light at the end of the tunnel, though, with a few days off next week...hurrah!!
Now, onto serious business. Atina's asking us what our favourites handmades are, and for me there is just no other possibility than the lovely "doudous", made with love by frenchie Bliss Cocotte.  A "doudou" is the French equivalent of a safety blanket (I think) for kids. You know, the soft toy or piece of fabric you never ever could sleep without.
I just love the way they look! What do you think?

Georges the cat has to be the best, with his pair of pants still on, no? If you like the thread, feel free to pass it around. Atina will be glad, she's just started her blog, so go pay her a visit soon, she's a talented newcomer on the blog scene.

time out

Sometimes you just need to take a step back, and enjoy a simple moment. That's it for me!

curvy clutch

Right. I just have to give up on using natural light these days! That said, I have managed to get home a bit earlier today, and to play with the camera a bit. I am SO happy with my new clutch. Have a look!

I have made it using the fabulous patterns from Keyka lou (see the links on the right hand side) and the precious fabrics sent to me by Atina (link on the right too). It's always very exciting to try a new pattern and see it coming to life. I've become a great fan of KL's patterns. They are really thorough and detailed enough for you to understand each step accurately. It's a pleasure to use them.
Tomorrow if I have a bit of time I'll go and get my fabric and sequins for my new "it" bag. Can't wait to embark on a new project...but what exactly is this obsession with bags, purses and clutches? Can anyone explain it? Are we - girls - just born with it?

Marie Claire

I have discovered this magazine by accident really, a few years ago, whilst on holiday in my native France. It is what it is: a great bundle of ideas in different arts and crafts. I love flicking through it and trying out some recipes and sewing projects. From this issue, I am going to have a go at the sporty/elegant shoulder bag. I would have started it last weekend, but I want just the right fabric and sequin, so it's on hold for the moment.

I do have a deadline I want it done by, though. I have had a trial session of pilates this week, and am starting a mini course later this month. So I definitely will need my sporty bag ready in three weeks!
French readers, if you've made it already, I'd love to see how it turned out. Leave me a comm, and I'll go have a look.
